About this Course

Course Description:

An introduction to the foundational concepts that support nearly all locate, background, and asset investigations. You learn how to begin an investigation with little or no personal identifying information, develop those identifiers responsibly, and use them to locate individuals, confirm identities, and analyze background and financial data. Emphasis is placed on understanding how public records and databases are created, how information can be incomplete or misleading, and how to evaluate search results critically.

Understand how to apply permissible purpose correctly, improve your search criteria, and recognize how data can be altered intentionally or unintentionally through reporting practices, system limitations, or user error. The course also addresses practical case-management strategies, helping you organize information efficiently and increase the likelihood of successful case outcomes.

Course Objectives

  • Better find and use the resources available to investigators and manage their cases more effectively.
  • Begin without personal identifiers, develop them, and use them to identify and find the subject, their background, and their assets & liabilities.
  • Better understand the applicability of permissible purposes to public records and databases.
  • Improve search criteria and results in public records and database searches.
  • Understand how data from public records and databases can be altered or manipulated unintentionally, intentionally, and as a consequence of searches.
  • Using the resources of public records and databases, how to upsell clients from one service – i.e., skip tracing – to the next – i.e., individual backgrounds and assets & liabilities as recommendations and not giving additional information (profit) away.
