FAQ’S Regarding Continuing Education for Georgia Private Investigators

Private detective and security employees renewing their license for the first time since the license was initially granted are exempt from the continuing education requirement for that first renewal period (https://rules.sos.ga.gov/gac/509-3).
Registered private detective employees need sixteen (16) hours of continuing education credit completed prior to renewal of employee registration (this happens on the odd numbered years on August 31st.
Georgia private detectives are required to take a total of 16 hours of continuing education before each license renewal period. The Georgia Board of Private Detectives and Security Agencies has required all Georgia private detectives to complete 12 hours of industry-related training + 2 hours of ethics + 2 hours of homeland security.
Continuing Education for renewal must be received during the two-year licensure period only.
You can not roll over additional CEU hours to the next renewal period.
You will not need to submit documentation of continuing education unless you are audited. It is good practice to download and keep your certificates of completion on file for three years. Auditing is a regular practice for state licensing boards.
Under board Rule 509-3-.12 PI Education is an acceptable continuing education provider.
